Check in with yourself!

We have all heard the words ‘check in with yourself’ but what does this actually mean! In essence it is just being mindful - being mindful and aware of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and also your body’s responses, reactions and needs. It is literally just checking in on your ‘self’ as you would with others! Ask yourself, when did you actually check how you are - HOW ARE YOU? HOW ARE YOU FEELING?

We have put together a quick list of questions for you to help you check in with yourself.

Anger

Anger

We all get angry, its totally normal! Anger is a natural primary emotion.
We are hard wired for anger, but sometimes if not expressed in the right way, anger can cause issues in your own life and for others. If this is an issue that is negatively impacting on your life, please get in touch with us, we can explore this further and help you learn to control it in a more constructive manner. Negative thoughts!.

Most of us have negative thoughts, it is a known fact that we have more negative thoughts than positive ones. We are hardwired to have them, yet constant negative thinking can affect our mental health, leaving us with emotional and psychological distress.
The good news is, we can try to help ourselves in altering our thought processes.
If you are experiencing distress and your thoughts are impacting on your daily living, please speak to your therapist and if needed GP.

Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is how we think about ourselves. How we perceive ourselves - this may be in a positive or negative way.

Low self-esteem is not valuing ourselves, for example we may lack confidence, we may be anxious, we are often very self critical. But the good news is, we can help ourselves and raise our self-esteem, confidence and self-worth.

For more info and extra tips you can also see our blog post on self-esteem and also one on ‘negative thoughts’ and click on the link above for the handouts.

Grounding and Relaxation techniques

Grounding and relaxation techniques can be used when we feel anxiety or anger taking the control over our mind. This can make us feel dissociated and detached from the reality.

The job of a grounding technique is to take us out of the traumatic experience of the past and bring us back to the safety of the presence by engaging our cognitive thinking.

What technique!

Reflective exercise.

What are you feeling, thinking? This great little exercise will help you to understand and reflect more on your emotions and thoughts.

Grab a piece of paper and start writing?
